Vegan Meals, and Much More! Sponsored by Vegan Outreach, The Tour Will Declare Health and Wellness as “10th Element of Hip Hop”

Brooklyn, New York – Today, Hip Hop Is Green, an organization and national tour founded by health activist Keith Tucker, made two major announcements: (1) That New York City will be an official leg of the tour and that, (2) “health and wellness” is now declared as the 10th element of Hip Hop (see the Hip Hop Declaration of Peace). The NYC kickoff, sponsored by Vegan Outreach, will take place at various venues in Harlem on Earth Day weekend

, from Thursday, April 21 to Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, P.S. 197 John B. Russwurm School, MIST Harlem, and the Oberia Dempsey Multi Services Center; (addresses below). Tour highlights include the Health and Wellness: 10th Element of Hip Hop Ceremony, a vegan Hip Hop Green Dinner, a symposium, and a celebration. Confirmed participants include Hip Hop and NBA legends, chefs, and holistic practitioners who live a vegan lifestyle. Some participants include international Hip Hop artist STIC of dead prez, Lox rapper Styles P, Cold Crush Brothers’ Supreme Easy A.D., legendary New York City breaker Mr. Wave, NBA legend and Brooklyn native John Salley, chef and author Lauren Von Der Pool, internationally renowned holistic practitioner Queen Afua, raw vegan chef Chandra Lee, Harlem Grown founder Tony Hillary, and many others! 

Since 2009, Hip Hop Is Green (HHIG) has served nutritious vegan meals to more than 4,000 youth and families in 10 cities. It seeks to create awareness about how to start and maintain healthy vegan lifestyles. It is noteworthy that many Hip Hop legends and pioneers will join HHIG to declare health and wellness as the 10th Element of Hip Hop. Tucker states that the declaration “naturally aligns with the aim of the Hip Hop Declaration of Peace – to ‘establish a foundation of Health, Love, Awareness, Wealth, Peace and Prosperity’ in communities throughout the world.” 


Hip Hop Health & Wellness Ceremony | Thursday, April 21

The Hip Hop Health & Wellness Ceremony will kick-off Earth Day weekend with the aforementioned proclamation. The ceremony will feature roll-out performances celebrating the first nine elements of hip hop culture – breaking, emceeing, graffiti art, DJing, beatboxing, street fashion, language, knowledge, and entrepreneurship – followed by an awards ceremony. 

The awards will include the HHIG Life Award, Vanguard Award, Community Health & Wellness Award and the 10th Element of Hip Hop Award. Each award will recognize people whose lifestyles combine Hip Hop and holistic health practices such as veganism or vegetarianism, raw foods, organic gardening, fitness, yoga, meditation, animal rights, activism, and food justice.

Location: The Schomburg Center. Doors will open at 10:00am and the ceremony will begin at 11:00am. General admission tickets are $75 and $100 for VIP.

 Hip Hop Green Dinner | Thursday, April 21

The Hip Hop Green Dinner is a free dinner that will feature a vegan meal (prepared by raw vegan Chef Chandra Lee) to nearly 200 families in Harlem. The dinner will utilize Hip Hop as a catalyst to promote health and wellness by introducing urban youth and families to a variety of healthy food and lifestyle choices in their communities, including local farmers, chefs, grocery stores, and fitness professionals through performance art. 

The dinner event will feature artists and speakers who live plant-based lifestyles, including performances by STIC of dead prez, emcee SA-ROC, and GRAMMY® nominated music educator DJ Cavem Moetavation & Arasia “Alkemia” Earth, AshEl Seasunz and the Universal Zulu Nation’s Methuzalah 

Speakers will include best-selling author and nutritionist Tracye McQuirter, Associate Director of Preventive Medicine with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, Dr. Milton Mills, and Cold Crush Brothers’ Supreme Easy A.D.. Keith Tucker will host the dinner event

Location: P.S. 197 John B. Russwurm School in Harlem. Harlem Grown and Whole Foods will be providing plant-based food for the dinner.

10th Element Hip Hop Symposium | Friday, April 22

The 10th Element Hip Hop Symposium will be an interactive panel discussion on Earth Day. Each form of health and wellness, such as plant-based foods, organic gardening, fitness, meditation, animal rights activism and food justice will be discussed in-depth. Featured speakers include Stic of Dead Prez, Methuzulah and Chef Brian Cataclysm Williams of the Universal Zulu Nation, DJ Cavem Moetavation & Arasia “Alkemia” Earth, SA-ROC and Sol Messiah, AshEl Seasunz and Supreme Easy A.D., author and Qui Quong practitioner Kimathi Card, and will be hosted by Fresh Start Focus radio personality Tanya “TD Lovin” Dawkins. 

Location: Oberia Dempsey Multi Services Center. Doors open 10:00am. Event will begin at 11:00am. Admission is $25.

10th Element Hip Hop Celebration | Friday, April 22

To culminate the tour and Earth Day, STIC of the revolutionary Hip Hop duo dead prez will headline the 10th Element Hip Hop Celebration. Also scheduled to perform are GRAMMY® nominated music educator DJ Cavem & Arasia “Alkemia” Earth, Emcees Methuzulah, SA-ROC and AsEL Seasunz; and will be hosted by Supreme Easy A.D. of the Cold Crush Brothers.

Hip Hop is Green founder Keith Tucker said, “It is critical that we address the health and wellness of our communities since sickness and disease are at epidemic levels in our country. Millions of young people are faced with severe health issues and hip hop culture is responding to those needs. Today, we are stepping up to fill a void by officially making Health and Wellness a permanent part of Hip Hop kulture. Our goal is to inform and inspire a whole new generation to make health and wellness most important in their lives.”
